I think Gary is close on his description of air flow. Years ago I turbo
charged a 1600 and the air filter came out of a hole in the hood just
forward of the brake master cylinder. I was afraid a vacuum would be
created at speed in this area, so I taped yarn all over the hood. My
results show good air flow in this area. I saw a picture of a Mustang at
140 MPH with its hood doing some major bowing up in the center section - at
least 1 inch above the finder. I agree, we need a pilots license to drive a
roadster over 90 MPH.
