Hi Stephan,
When I worked on my pistons, I found some bits of metal wedged in the ring
grooves. Not everything that drops into the cylinder gets blown out. If
something gets wedged in with the rings, there's potential for it scraping
the cylinder walls. Or I speculate that there's also potential for
restricting ring expansion (I don't really know, just guessing on this).

The head is on and i was not planning on pulling it. Won't the small bits of
carbon be blown out the exhaust when the engine is started ?
