Alan,
My brother once bought an Austin Healey 3000 that used to spray oil out the
rear main seal (if you can call it that) every time he turned it on or off.
He ended up rebuilding the engine only to find the problem was still there.
I had to restrain him from taking a hammer to the thing. We started looking
at all the vent hoses and found out that the PO had stuffed all the hoses
with foam rubber. We should have known something was up when he brought it
home and noticed that the crank case vent was directing oil flow from the
lower connection to a coffee can. I still wonder what the old fart could
have been thinking when he did it.
While all this was going on, I would fire up my never-fail roadster and
drive away.
My Roadster has a shortened (7") shifter. I broke the old one when my
transmission filled with water and froze solid (long story).
