After some further adjustments my 69 2L passed Arizona emissions today. The
great thing is that it passed with the solex carbs I rescued from a parts car
that had been setting for over 10 years and no smog equipment.
Life is good!
Celebrated by installing an electric fan. Great improvement in terms of
power and sound. However, the car did run a bit hotter than it had been with
the fixed blade fan. I installed a 12 in fan -- could fit something larger.
Should I go to the larger model fan or is the problem likely to be a radiator
that isn't flowing quite like it should?
Also, although the car has smooth, excellent power . . . it does tend to
backfire and "pop" during deceleration. Ignition parts are all new,
including the distributor. And, according to tests run today, the fuel
mixture appears to okay at both the lower and middle ranges. Could this be
caused by a very old (probably baffle-less) muffler? Or, is just the "nature
of the beast?"
