Nathan,
While you can run a 2000 on 1600 carbs, you'll have a lot
of work in getting the linkage setup correctly.
With a little machine work, and some rod and rod ends I
could figure out how to get the linkage built... but,
it would be QUICKER to simply have the 2000 carbs
rebuilt.
I assume you are looking at having the throttle shafts
bushed, so they do not wiggle and let air in. A TEMPORARY
fix is to lightly wind up some grease covered yarn around
the throttle shafts. Yes, this is a mickey mouse repair
by may let you enjoy the rest of summer before pulling
the car off the road for a few weeks.
On my 510 days, it is much simplier to swap around
different carbs. I found the 1600 SU's on a 2000cc
motor to give a pretty good low end response. Engine
ran out of breath aroud 5,500 rpm. Same would apply
to 2000 roadster.
For those with "THUMPER" Motor's (either R or H blocks
running the stroked crank and 2L pistons/rods), a good
swap is to modify a set of 2000 carbs to fit onto the
1600 manifold.
