David,
You need that spring on the slave cylinder or else the pedal won't return
properly and it won't feel right at all. It's happened to me, luckily i
hadn't lost the spring, it just got disconnected on one end.

Subject: 1600 Clutch feel?
Fellow BADROCers,
I need help. Sean said his clutch pedal suddenly went to the floor very
easily today and now the pedal doesn't feel right to him. I bled the
line and noticed that the return spring was missing. I checked the feel
myself but I hadn't spent alot of time driving the car so I can't really
tell what the clutch is supposed to feel like. It didn't grind when
shifting, it didn't slip when the pedal was completely released but
seemed to slip more while in transition. What I was hoping for, was
that a BADROCer witha 1600 could possibly stop by and give me his/her
opinion of the clutch feel or let me feel their clutch? Sometime
Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be best, but any evening over the
next few days would work too. Please feel free to call me at 363-0279.
I am just west of Redwood City near upper Edgewood Road.
