Hey all,

To all those that have inquired about my Solex U-20 and / or the Solex
parts I have for sale, and those who didn't because they figured the
shipping might be too much to justify:

I thought I'd shed some light on the question of how much it might cost
to ship my engine and transmission
to whoever buys it - I just phoned around to a few shipping companies in
Toronto, including one that we use regularly at work, and I was quoted
anywhere
from $200 to $400 CDN to go by land (air freight was about $500) from
Toronto to San Francisco (the destination I used for the sake of
generating about the highest rate possible), based on the crate being a
very generously estimated 5' x 3' x 3', and about 500 lbs. - curiously,
most shippers were not very interested in how much it would weigh, just
the dimensions. I'm sure it won't be dimensionally quite that
big.......$300 CDN converts to about $200 American dollars (@1.47:1),
so depending on your perspective and how much you value an engine and
transmission, that's either not too bad, or too much! Obviously there
would be some additional costs, like insurance, and brokerage/duties,
but I can't see them being substantially more. I will take care of the
cost of the shipping crate itself, and depending how good the best offer
ends up being, I'm more than willing to help with the transportation
costs.
And remember, if you are closer than SF then the shipping cost is
obviously going to be less, even better for anywhere in Canada. If you
lived anywhere (Canada or US) within say a day's drive of me, I'll
deliver to your door for nothing!

So, don't hesitate to make offers - I'm a pretty easy guy to talk about
money with.
