i recently replaced my clutch as well. you DO have to pull the engine to get
around that cross member.
i cleaned up the tansmission which looked like it hadn't been opened in 31
years. 2 synchros and some heavy-duty cleaner and it was as good as new. these
trannies are pretty durable.
