It sounds like you need some Easy-out tools. These are bits like threading
taps. However, they're reversed threaded and bite into the bolt or screw
being removed as you back them out in a counter-clockwise direction. You
can buy these at most hardware stores, Sears, etc. If need be, you can
always drill out the obstruction with a drill bit smaller than the threaded
opening, and clear it with a matching threading tap.
The problem is, you want to minimize the debris being dropped in the intake
manifold. You can do that by removing the carburetors. Then you can vacuum
out the debris with a vacuum cleaner hose, so the junk doesn't drop into
the cylinders. Most of it would get blown out while the engine is running,
but why take chances! Vacuum out as much as you can.
