I am hoping for the e-ride! (solexes, b-cam, 4.11 LSD). I do have one
question:
When my mechanic had the motor apart he noticed that the valves were all
bigger than in the factory shop manual. When we replaced the exhaust valve
guides we sized them to the existing valves (all had the little Nissan
logo), and all seemed to work ok. Before we put the head back on, I had him
write all the valve sizes down so I could later figure out what was going
on.
Are there any specs anyone has for the larger valves? The car was raced
from 1968-1980, and the other stuff came in the car, maybe I lucked out and
got the head too!!
Is the cruising range on this car going to be less than 100 miles? :)

PS: It appears that I have a 68-70 Solex aircleaner box. If anyone would
like to trade, I'd like to find the correct 67 Solex air cleaner box.

Daniel,
There is no denying the "cool" factor when you raise the hood and half
the engine compartment is filled with those big dual throat carbs.
However, keep a couple of things in mind. Jim and Scott make good points
regarding cam choice, in particular. There ain't no such thing as a free
lunch, especially with cams. If you go with just the Solexs (probably if
you added the "B" cam, too) don't be surprised if your expectations for
increased performance aren't met by these changes alone. We've discussed
the cost difference using Webers, too, if I remember correctly.
If I were going to do the switch (on a primarily street driven car) it
would include (maybe) a slightly stouter cam than the "B" cam along with
some mild head work and a free flowing exhaust system. I'd then have this
combo jetted and tuned by someone who really knows what they're doing and
add a 4.11 LSD differential. It should be a real E-Ticket ride! You'd
probably spend $4K (semi-educated guess based on $1500 for the Solexs,
$700-$1K for the 4.11 LSD) to do this. You can probably get at least 80%
of the total performance increase just from going to the 4.11 gearing
with no other changes.
Bottom line, if it's what you want and if you can afford to do the whole
thing right, go for it. The one person you need to satisfy is yourself.
FWIW, Ron
