Daniel -

My first roadster came with Solexes. That engine now resides in the '69
2000.

12-16 MPG, no fouling but #4 is darker than the rest, occasional
backfire on the overrun. No stumbling since balancing and doing the
accelerator pump rod mod (from the Sharp book.)

The 'committed foot' issue is so as to avoid 'driver-induced
oscillation' (auto version of pilot induced oscillation, or
'porpoising'). Driver (and foot) rocks backward under acceleration
causing light throttle-lift, which then reverts to heavier throttle as
the car rapidly decelerates, resulting in acceleration, loop to above,
resulting in a bucking of sorts. The lighter and more responsive the
car, the worse this can get, to the point of damaging the car or losing
control.
