carpet questions

I got a set of carpets from Stan and was wondering if there are any
tricks(except for the ones Stan told me)to puting them in. In
particular, the carpet over the hump. Do I need to use any sort of
adhesive to keep it down? Is there any sort of padding that needs to go
down first? I'm worried about messing this up and want to get them in
right. Thanks in advance for all the sage advice I may be about to
receive :-)
