Wheels

Can somebody tell me., or point me to a source of info on whells and 
tires.  With all this talk on the lis lately I feel I should learn a 
little more about it for when it comes time to put some wheels on my 
car.  I need information on things like the meaning of offset, back 
spacing, steel sleeves, and lug sizes.  Thanks
