Hi all;
On my '69 2000, the engine feels like it runs out of air and/or fuel at
about 5000 or 5500 rpm. Looking at the redline (7000, AIR?), I think I'm
missing something. Any clues out there, or is that how SU-equipped U20's
go? The engine is stock, save the four-blade fan, no smog, and header.
Carbs have N-17 needles, if that means anything. Timing is set at around
10 BTDC initial, distributor is stock, AFAIK. There may be some weirdness
with the dist advance - perhaps a broken advance weight spring or some
grungy gumminess; the mechanical advance seems to come on all at once, so
maybe that's a possible culprit?
This may be related to the above; is there an easy way to check the cam
timing on the U20 *and* adjust it if necessary? The above symptoms make me
wonder if maybe the cam is retarded - plus, the car feels VERY torquey from
idle to about 4000 rpm - not a sports car rev range;-)
Oh, and what are the valve supposed to be set at? And how do I get the
valve cover to quit leaking?
TIA,
