Hi ,
Ian kerr calling from Birmingham U K .
I have had my 03 olds apart , the gears were tight so i thought that i had
better see what state they were in.
It looks like the gears were replaced in 1950 when the engine was apart, they
are all steel gears , even in reverse .all the bushings were also in good
state .
The crank has been made in sections ,the shafts seem to be joined to the
counter balances , there is one nut showing so one shaft may have been
screwed.
the small end is between the 2 counter balances.
The exhaust valve seat has a crack so i am going to take it to a specialist
welder to see what he thinks , If I can get the exhaust out of the head there
would be good access to weld below the seat , so far the exhaust pipe is in
very tight, perhaps more heat is needed but i am worried about doing harm to
the head.
The water passage`s in the head were fairly well blocked up ,this must have
caused the valve seat crack, water was passing though the main passage but
was not getting round the back of the head , I have spent ages cleaning these
passages out but have not found a way to get a flow round the back of the head
,
I was wondering if I took one of the carb mounting studs out , would this
give me access to clear a passage along the back of the head.
There must be water at the back of the head as I have seen the cooling mod
done on another car.

I am also thinking of doing a mod in order to adjust the tappet clearence .

I would welcome any thoughts on the above ,

Ian Kerr.
