I'm restoring a '64 Elan S2; my latest unpleasant surprise is on one of the
aluminum rear hub carriers. The inner circlip that holds the inner bearing
in place is long gone, because some twit must have forced the carrier off
the shaft without removing the circlip first. Result is the aluminum lip
on the carrier is broken off, so no groove for the circlip to sit in now.
Looking for suggestions - anyone have a hub carrier they need to part with?
Or, is it possible to weld up the aluminum and have a new groove machined
in? I'd appreciate any thoughts.
