fuel pump noise

Today I noticed the noise of the fuel pump in my TR8 FI while driving the
car.  It makes a fair amount of noise while the engine is not running, but
this was the first I noticed the whine at highway speeds.  It sounded a
little like the noise from my TR6 electric pump when it is sucking air, but
I don't think this was the cause.  Is this a prelude to it failing?
