TR8 Subframe Bent? (longish)

Getting the engine back in the '8 has been taking longer than expected due
to several non-Triumph related requirements raising their nasty little
heads. I've pounded them down and am now back in the garage, dutifully
paying fealty to my Poseidon Green mistress....

I wrote a few weeks ago about a problem w/ a hole having been worn into my
sump pan from setting on the power steering rack. The PO had the hole
welded up and re-used the pan. He also replaced the power rack with a
non-power rack from a '7. His explanation was that he couldn't get the
power rack repaired and installed the non-powered rack for use until a spare
power rack could be found at a salvage yard. Also, he mentioned that he'd
hit a dog on the front left which damaged the air dam and bent the fender.
At the time, I didn't tie it all together but I'm now thinking that all of
these problems are the result of the collision with the alleged dog.

OK, so I got new engine mounts and couldn't line them up because the pan was
too low. Removed pan, modified shape slightly with a 4 lb. sledge and a
heel dolly, reinstalled. Crank doesn't strike the pan, so internal
clearance is OK. I've also got about 1/4" clearance between the pan and the
rack. Sorted!

But every problem sorted brings a new one to light. Even though the holes
for the engine mounts line up horizontally with the sub-frame mounting
points, they are about 1/4 to 3/8 too wide. The sub-frame looks pretty
stout but mine appears to have seen some rough service (remember the alleged
dog?) in it's time. Anyone ever seen a sub-frame bent? Also, does anyone
have a measurement of the distance from the left and right engine mounting
points on the sub-frame?

Cheers

Chris
