Background; I have a 1984 Range Rover Classic and recently converted it to
a 4.6 V8 out of a later HSE, and fitted the 14 CUX hotwire fuel injection
from a 3.9 V8 Discovery. I've fitted the timing cover from the old 3.5 V8
and a standard camshaft from a 3.8 EFI V8 to enable me to use all original
anciliaries, 4 V-belts and distributer from the original engine.The points
made way for a Petronics ignitor ignition system. Heads are bog standard.
ECU has a tornado chip installed.

But I was not sure whether the absence of a road speed input would let the
ECU think that the TPS was at fault and then goes into a mode without it at
all. My RR was very heavy on fuel and that made me search for a road speed
sensor. With great enthusiasm I fitted the road speed sensor (out of '92 RR)
past week-end and with even bigger expectations I took the car for a drive,
but was very dissapointed with the results. The RR has almost no back
compression when decellerating and when stopping, the revs would sit very
high, at 1100, and only after a few seconds would start to drop. This is
very annoying when changing gears at low RPM's because as I depress the
clutch to change, the revs would go up and the brakes are working overtime.
To my mind it seems as if the stepper motor is not responding for some
reason and/or the ECU does not cut off the fuel supply on overrun. I can
just add the the stepper motor worked fine before fitting the road speed
sensor. Any help/advice on this will be much appreciated.
Just another 2 questions, will the ECU disregard the TPC in the absence of a
road speed input, and can I clear a fault code in the ECU by simply
disconnecting the 12v supply to the main relay?
