I have never seen either an Olds or Buick 215 that came from the factory
with exhaust manifold gaskets.  I personally always use gaskets when
reassembling them however.

As I said, My shop manual is silent regards gaskets. This manual is part #
AKM 3616B copyright 1981. The parts manual is part # RTC9852CA dated January
1980. Since it shows the gasket as #GEG692, manifold to cylinder head, part
of gasket kit RTC2576 on both the section illustration of the exhaust
manifold, pg 1D 08, & also in the illustration of the gasket set mentioned,
pg 1D 14, I must assume that is was used in assembling the engine
originally, It is not noted as a later or modified part.

I was not aware of any GM engines being built without exhaust gaskets, as
all my parts books from Felpro & Victor, etc show a listing.

My personal opinion is that not using gaskets will result in leaks that are
unpleasant at best.
