It appears the 3.9 in my '89 Range Rover will not run over 3000rpm. Other
than that it appears to run fine with "adequate" power below that rpm. I
know there is cheap stuff like fuel filters to check, this was replaced less
than a year ago.
I need to poke around and see what I can find, but I'm thinking possibly
catalytic converters or maybe even cam problems. I will also check timing to
make sure it's advancing.
The engine has 171K miles on it, but I would like to get at least another
30K before having to replace it. I was wondering if anyone had experience
replacing the cam and timing chain on the 3.9 at this mileage. After reading
many different articles it appears this may give new life to my engine. I
don't won't to waste my money at this point, but if this would do the trick,
it would be better than spending $2300 for a rebuilt short block and heads.
