Hi,
My car (Rover P5B with 5 litre V8 + 5 speed) has a live axle on leaf
springs. I've been looking with increasing interest at the rear axle from a
Rover SD1. These are coil sprung with a torque-tube locating arm and a Watts
linkage for lateral location.
I believe a few of you may have used these as part of a MG V8 conversion, so
I have a few questions.
There a number of ratios available depending on the SD1 type, the 2.6 manual
is 3.45:1 while the V8 models are 3.08:1. Is the diff the same in each case,
ie are they equally strong?
Is there a limited slip conversion available for these diffs?
What is the width of the SD1 axle?
Finally, do they use taper roller bearings for the half-shafts? My P5B rear
axle uses roller bearing, so with occasional sprint races I only get a
couple of years out of each set...
Thanks,
Simon
