Nice article in the latest MGB V8 Newsletter on bellhousings for the
Rover\Buick V8. Have to make a minor correction to the author though. It
comes under the heading "things I didn't know... but I sure know now!"
department. Anyway, the article states that the Leyland P76 in Australia
used the Rover bellhousing and gearbox. Not so. Thanks to Paul Johns in
OZ, I was sent a P76 bellhousing and it ain't a Rover bolt pattern for sure.
After some head scratching and e-mails to some down under folk, it turns out
that Leyland used the Ford Single rail from Australian Falcons to back up the
P76. With that in mind, I visited one of my favorite boneyards in the local
area with the P76 bell in hand. They've got a nice "pile" of useless trannys
I like to play in on occasion. I found a 3 speed gearbox from a Ford truck
that it bolted up to perfectly. Didn't have time to find if a Toploader
would work, but I'll have more time this weekend. So... hows that for
useless information! Could be an interesting combo though. A Rover v8 in an
early Ford Bronco?
