The switches in the center console seem to have had some kind of goop on the
contacts (maybe to prevent arcing???). When I disassembled the switches in
my car, there was a fair amount of fairly solid, greenish goop in the
contacts. Once cleaned, everything worked well. There were no wiring
problems, just high resistance connections.

The switches come apart fairly easily, but some of the contacts are
difficult to get at with a contact cleaning/polishing/burnishing tool.
