Sorry folks, my apologies for not being more specific:
I don't want to restore a piece in bakelite, I want to paint metal to look
like bakelite. I have a reproduction horn button and surround that has been
cast in aluminum and I need to paint it to look like the bakelite original
that is now long gone. Only bare metal reproductions available.

There is a product for the restoration of bakelite fountain pens,
that would do very well.
I have used it to restore the color to some Lucas components.
