Not to belabor the point, but "braided stainless" lines still have a soft
inner tube inside the braid.  And modern "reformulated" gasoline will "eat"
older fuel components, causing the soft lines to fail from the inside out.
Plus your symptoms fit exactly with crud in the fuel, possibly from failing
soft lines ... what happens is that a piece of crud gets caught in the
valve, keeping it from closing fully.  The engine runs fine while being
driven, since it's using more fuel than is leaking past the valve.  But when
it idles, it uses less fuel and so the level in the float bowl rises until
it overflows.

Don't know for sure that's your problem, of course, but I wouldn't rule it
out so easily.

Have you checked the the bowls for debris ?
