I have always been warned: the new gas and the older plastic carb floats
are a bad mixture. The gas supposedly can eat into the floats, turning
them into "sinkers".
Well, it just happened to me, so I guess it must be true. I rebuilt my
carbs only a couple of months ago. Last week when I started it, it ran
terribly with a resounding sound of gas splashing on the garage floor.
When I removed the rear carb today, both bubbles of the float were 100%
full of gas. I can only assume the front carb will go soon thereafter.
Now the real question: Anyone know where I can get real brass floats
for a TR6 (Zenith Stromburg) carb? I know I have asked TRF and come up
empty handed. The Moss catalog says "NA" for *any* float.
Anyone got any ideas?
