I forgot to mention that I have also known people that frequently change 
their oil to replace their drain plug with a 'drain-valve' designed to 
accept a piece of heavy hose.  Then they just put the hose on the end of 
the nipple, open the valve, and drain the oil right into whatever container 
they would like.  It's pretty slick, though I don't know that I would mess 
with it.
