Oops, one I missed.
Yes the screw is going in and out. It goes in enough that I actually
get some fuel seeping past it and out far enough that the head extends
out beyond the body of the carb, with practically no apparent motion
of the jet.

I've found something worse than oldies station that play the music I used to
