I've tried to think this one out, but still need some help.
I'm replacing the fuel pump in my 1980 TR7 which has a 1979 engine.
I manually operated the new pump, and it seems to squirt gas fine. The
previous owner had installed the previous pump, which has a different-looking
actuating lever, and he used two fat spacers between pump and engine block.
I used the same two spacers, and the new pump doesn't seem to work. Ok, so I
took out one spacer, tried again, and still no go.
If I leave out both spacers, I can feel the acuating lever pushing up against
the cam on the jackshaft, so I'm afraid that the pump is too close and
something will get damaged when I turn the engine over.
On the other hand, maybe the "throw" of the acuating lever is really short?
So, should this car use a spacer(s), and if not, is it ok if the acuating rod
is pushing up against the cam as I install the pump?
