Paul,
I'm quite sure the front stub axles aren't the same as for the Ace. When
the Ace 2.6 was morphed into the Cobra, a number of components in the
drive-train had to be upgraded to accommodate the higher power and torque
of the Ford V8. For example the diff was change to
a 4HU Salisbury (same as in the in Jags) along with tougher half-shafts
and hubs. The calipers were upgraded too.
I've been a member of the AC Owners Club (ACOC) for a number of years
and the club has provided some assistance, but there's really only so
much that can be done since these stub axles are no longer available
from any source. I'm in contact with a couple of other Cobra owners
(one in England and one here in the San Francisco Bay Area) who have
already gone through this. Both had to have them custom made.
Thanks for the Fiberglass advice. I've got some resin, which I'll use
on the inside, but think I'll go for gel coat on the outside per your
suggestion.
