Timing at this point isn't at all critical. It will start within maybe +/-
20 or 30 degrees. For rough-in after rebuild, the manuals say just set #1
to TDC, then rotate the distributor until the points just open (use a test
lite to see). Since the car's been sitting, check the vertical piston and
needle in the carb to make sure its free - they sometimes stick from dried
varnish and close off fuel flow. Make sure the choke is operating. If
you've confirmed spark and compression, fuel is the the only other
ingredient.
