Scott Tilton asked "What is Magnaflux"

Magnaflux is the Magnaflux Corporation version/system of the nondestructive
test technique called Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT). MT is a method for
locating surface and subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic material.
It depends for its operation on the fact that when the part being tested is
magnetized, discontinuities (cracks) which lie in a direction generally
transverse to the direction of the magnetic field will cause a leakage field
to be formed at and above the surface of the part. The leakage field, and
therefore the crack is detected by the use of finely divided ferromagnetic
particles applied over the surface. Some of the particles are held by the
leakage field. The magnetically held collection of particles forms an
outline of the discontinuity and indicates it's location, size and shape.

Most automotive machine shops use dry particle MT which works well enough.
For a few bucks more a nondestructive test lab or a more advanced machine
shop can do a wet fluorescent MT which is much more sensitive.

Separate topic - Larry Snyder asked about attacking stuck fasteners

1) You can use penetrating oil and a soldering iron for small screws and
nuts that are near things a flame may damage.

2) Also for small bits, your vibroetch/engraving tool can sometimes get
things started.

3) When undoing a recalcitrant nut/bolt/screw turn back in after every few
turns out. It helps to break up the corrosion product and clear the joint of
debris.

Last topic - typograpical errors

I like typos. Where else are you going to get 35000 rpm Healeys and people
who lick tires on weekends?
