With regards to the thread on orbital polishers. I'm a Ziebart manager, and
i've seen what DAMAGE can be done with a little knowledge ( a dangerous
thing..) Point is that if you intend on using a High speed ( yes, even 1500
rpm ) polisher on your car without the proper training, you will 'burn' the
paint and destroy the finish!!

there are alot of factors to consider when polishing your car

-- Is it oxidized
-- is it scratched
-- is it a Laquer based finish
-- is it urethane
-- is it enamel
-- is it base/clear/pearl
-- does it have a fluorine base????

At Ziebart , we constantly get TSB's form the industry, so if you don't
know what you've got on your car, take it to a pro, and let then worry
about it!

Oh, yes.. If you must polish your car, a max rpm of 500 is plenty ( on a
cheapie B&D style)
a good polish and then wax is the way to go. Mother's and Mequire's make
some real nice stuff.... the other type of buffer is a "TUBBY" and they
have one large pad which spins on a concentric bearing. Tubby's are best
on cars that don't have any major damage... But, if you've got a car with
a finish that's shot anaways, it doesn't really matter what you do, you
can't make it worse!!
