After discussion of vauum wipers, I wonder who has had experience with vacuum overdrive. In the days before crise control (60's), some cars had an optional electric overdrive (5th gear, achieved by pushing a buttor or pressing a lever). When I was doing pre-purchase test-driving, I drove one that had a vacuum (aftermarket) overdrive. It's most distinctive feature in the engine bay was a "ball-chain" type affair. I want one now; I should have taken a picture (or at least some notes) then. Anyone know what I'm talking about? In connection, Judith Winter island@whidbey.net |
