Subj: Innocenti's
I know that there exists an Innocenti derivative of the Mini, I've seen
a good number of them in Italy, and several elsewhere (not in the US
though... too bad). I think that Innocenti was a coachbuilder in Italy
that tried to branch out into semi-volume manufacturing, and licensed the
Mini mechanicals. Innocenti's are definitely more squared off than a
Mini, but there's no way to hide the parentage. Beauty, however, is in
the eye of the beholder... personally I like them.
I read an article in a UK based, MG specific magazine several years ago
(can't remember the name, but the covers ALWAYS have a red border). The
article went into the Italian/UK connection specifically about Midgets.
It seems Innocenti rebodied at least one as a styling exercise, and
may have done more (I don't recall for sure), but didn't go into production
with it. The Innocenti/Midget was also a more squared off version of the
Midget, especially ahead of the windscreen.
Now my turn for questions... What's a Daimler, and what is its connection
with Jaguar?
I've noticed several new Daimlers on the road (in Singapore) recently which
are duplicates of Jaguar XJ6's (or Sovreigns). The only differences I've
been able to pick out are the badging, the grill details, and the headlight
shape. I also happened upon a review of the Daimler vs Jaguar XJ6, but
only had time to gather that the Daimler was possibly a softer sprung
version of a Jag. Is this a Rolls/Bently kind of relationship?
I've heard of Daimler Darts, but I normally expect to hear 'Benz' after
'Daimler'... what gives?
