Dear fellow SOLers,
Some days ago I sent you this article about the reasons why
the SU fuel pumps should have a diode and a capacitor to be
reliable. This was once written by Norman Nock. I also
mentioned his book the "Tech Talk". I was able to take a
closer look inside and must say that this is something quite
unique comparing the other books I have seen before that
dealt with car issues, i.e. Austin-Healey. I am glad that
the Healey was originally using parts out of mass produced
British cars. That means that one can find lots of articles
that are not only valid for the Healey (big, small or tiny),
but for most other lbcs too.
There are topics covered such as:
- Alternators and generators - advantages and disadvantages
- Electrical fuel pump service guide
- The flasher unit
- Working principles of the voltage regulator
- Driving and tuning your Austin-Healey for high altitudes
- Engine will nor crank...
- A pre-touring inspection
- Brakes
- Storing your Healey
- British remain opposed to driving on the right (newspaper article)
- The battery
- How to inspect splines on wire wheels and hubs
- The tune up
- U-joint replacement
- Understanding clutch hydraulics
- Stories, e.g. Murphy's Law = Prince of Darkness
- Custom tyre removal
- Squeaky brakes?
- Low oil pressure
- Fixing oil leaks
- Making sense out of those sidewall hieroglyphics
- The A-H front suspension
- Lubricating the distributor
and others...
This is written not only in a style of a repair manual, but also
explaining with interesting pictures and related examples the
reasons how something does or why it doesn't work. And even the
stories are fun!
It has a little under 130 pages.
Norman says:
" I have been writing tech. articles for the Healey
clubs for over 14 years, after numerous requests I
have gathered them together along with some never before
published and had them spiral bound in book form. Send
$30.00 plus $4.00 US shipping to:
British Car Specialists
2060 N Wilson Way
Stockton, CA 95205
209-948-8767 "
He also sells some hard to find Austin-Healey parts by mail
or phone order.
I have no financial interest in this book! I just found it
interesting and a lot of fun to read.
Cheers,
Gus
