For those of you why have high-compression engines in their LBCs, may find this
inteesting.
3 years ago I built a 1500 Midget engine, using all the go-faster goodies,
with a Kent cam and Heppolite 11.5:1 pistons. I knew I was taking a risk,
because
the quality/octane of gas available is limited. After putting the engine
together,
and playing around with the timing, I always used Sunoco 94, as anything else
would
cause the engine to ping very badly under load. Occasionalyy I would put in a
couple
of gallons of CAM2 (100 octane), advance the timing and have some REAL fun.
Last week I was running short on gas and could not find a Sunoco station, so I
put in $5 of Amoco 93. Guess what ????? - I runs a lot better than with Sunoco
94, and pings a lot less under load.
Soooo...... does this mean that Amoco 93 has a higher octane rating than Sunoco
94 ?
I am confused !!!!!!!!
Gerry
PS - I filled up with Amoco 93 at a different gas station, and the car runs
just as
good as it did on the first tank of Amoco.
