Ok, well, I got the specs on my cam. And well, I'm not really sure
what they mean. Is anyone out there a cam expert? Are there books
someone can recommend?

Here are the stats:

  Chambers BL1 Cam

Intake Opens at 35 measure at .008 degree lift duration
closes at 72 (how does one measure this?)
  Exhaust opens at 76
         closes at 31

  Cam lift is 262
Duration is 287 degrees at .008 (but this figure may not be correct)

  intake lash is .010
  outtake .016

I've got some more testing to do this weekend. I'm going to play some
compression games. I thinking about removing only the exhaust
pushrods, and then trying the compression test with only the intake
valves connected. This would allow air into the cylander, but not
out. If there is an overlap problem with the valves this should
eliminate that, and my compress should be better. I'm going to think
about this test a bit more, as I'm not sure what it will tell me.
Anyone have other ideas on compression games I can play? (yes, I
know, I need to find a Leak down tester!, (I may buy one soon)...

Well, I drove it to Phoenix and back over memorial day weekend in
1993. It ran great, but still won't idle worth a hoot. Before that I
drove it from Maryland to Colorado. It's had its chance, now it's
time to find some answers! :-)

Next report soon... Hope everyone has Turkey day with clean hands!
(I'm going to keep mine under the table. :-)

Cheers,
