When I was visiting Britain in the mid-80's I couldn't resist the price on a
rebuilt ribcase gearbox for my '66 midget. I had the same quandry as how to
get it home. I stuffed it into a large duffle bag I had brought with me and
checked it with the airline (TWA). There were no extra charges, and that was
an international flight. I don't know the exact weight of the gearbox, but
based on how much I lugged it, they are not very heavy.
