I am currently in Rochester, NY and am contemplating a move to CA, Bay Area. I
realize rust is not spoken there and would like opinions relating to
transporting my cars. Mainly should I bother or should I sell.
Car1- 59 MGA frame blasted repaired and repainted. Front suspension rebushed.
Ready for body install. Body shell blasted, sills replaced and currently
shot in Dupont version of DP40. I have all parts for body($600) and engine
($700) assembly I purchased from Moss and NorthWest Auto. All work done at
high quality level with intention of keeping car for long time. Car is
complete.
Car2 - 59 MGA - unrestored ,complete, needs usual inner frame and sill repair,
another frame off candidate.
I intend to drive the car but would like to ``trade-up`` when time is right.
Owing to inner frame repairs and sill replacement completed would these cars
be unsellable in the pure CA climate . Rephrased: is any rust repair
(regardless of quality) the kiss of death. I guess my assumption is a similar
year CA MGA might not decay as seriously as NY cars thus effecting the depth of
restoration and potentially the market value.
Choices; 1. Sell, losing most labor invested thus far. 2. Transport to CA
3. Put in deep storage in Rochester for potential completion of restoration at
future date.
I will be in CA for Jan 1 start date. I would need to spend $1500 to buy a
trailer to do my best Beverly Hillbilly's entrance and pay for storage until I
find some garage space.
Help!
Jeff
