        Gentle S.O.L.S.

I about to begin the bespoke engine rebuild on the "Green
Man"... It seems whenever I have an opportunity to begin
the the job something comes up. Well after our club's color
tour this weekend, I will get started.

Last month I got the 87mm pistons and balanced rods that I
wanted. They look great! They have been used all of 20 minutes
in a racer. One piston is a litlle scuffed near the skirt, but
otherwise they are like new. I had planned to get a milder cam
but was told that boring out my stock cylinders would smooth
out what I have. We'll see... I opted instead for a still in the
box 2nd gear (the tranny has been popping out of 2nd on decel
lately). Other parts are in the process of being ordered and
I've talked to a couple machine shops which will do the actual
precision work. I'm thinking about getting the crank and fly
wheel balanced (and the flywheel lightened too). Does anyone
know about how much thsi should cost? My budget is being strained
on this job but I don't expect to rebuild the engine for several
years more and I want to get the most bang for what little
I can afford. Of course any other thoughts on this process will
be appreciated (gods know you'll give them anyway).

The fall out here in the flatlands has been quite nice, though I
haven't had time to ejoy it. It's conference season for the MDs
I work with and we AV gypsies have been busy indeed...

        Take care
