Same concept, different content.  The S**t part of S**t on a Shingle is 
comprised of chipped beef (very thinly sliced dried and salted beef) 
swimming in a white sauce.  The Shingle part is simply a slice of toast.  
When it's properly done, it's actually rather tasty (IMHO), but as 
usually served it deserves it's SOS label.  Devilled kidneys are a 
little-known dish here in the States.  I'm very fond of them, but will 
admit that the only smell worse than that of cooking kidneys is the smell 
of the local sewage treatment plant.
