How much is rusted away on the body tub? If it needs all new floors, sills, etc
its no job for the average body shop, better to take it to a place that has a
lot of experience with E-types. New panels don't always fit right.
Engine is probably ok but ask for receipts about that rebuild or take it with a
grain of salt. Carbs could be gummed up with old petrol. Someone on the jag
list just started up a 64 E that hadn't ran in 20 years and its apparently ok.
Trannys don't usually give much trouble.
If you can't recognize what's missing, make a list of what you know you should
look for and get the owner to go over it with you, or take along an expert.
$12,900 US is a bit high even if you clear up the unknowns so haggle for it,
but on the other hand its a roadster and one of the best years.
A few years back the automotive writers association voted it the most beautiful
car ever built.
