It sounds like your first oil change was quite an event. Thanks for
sharing it. I don't think that any filter parts need to be carried
over during an oil change, but the bypass valve at the bottom of the
canister should probably be dismantled and cleaned. I also clean out
the interior of the canister since this is where the gunk from the oil
will collect.
I performed my last oil/filter change with an all-paper filter, and
I wonder how it is holding up. Prior to receiving this part from one
of the mail order suppliers, I had been using a filter from my nearby
NAPA store. Interestingly enough, this filter has an all-metal casing.
I wonder if it wouldn't resist collapse better than an all-paper unit.
