The top on our B, even though a 78, also had leaky seams, especially
where it stretched over the back-most top bow. We tried one solution
that worked. Went to Tandy Leather and got some small patches of
black leather. These we glued (w/ flexible stuff) into the insided of
the top at just those stressed places. It seemed to work. By the
way, when we popped for a new top several years later (due to the
blackened windows on the old), we added leather reinforcement under
the seams in advance of installation. Fingers crossed for a long
life.
NOw, as for Will's back, what can I say? I (re-)injured mine in
April when I had the wiring problem. It was pretty bad - unable
to sit for 2-1/2 months, much less drive more than a few blocks.
In the end, my regular doctor decided to send me to a specialist,
and the latter scheduled me for surgery. About a week before it
was all to happen, presto, out of the blue, I start feeling better.
The lesson - substantiated by a couple of recent medical studies,
by the way - is that if your LBC screws up your back, and the
medical types head you for the operating room, don't assume that
the surgery is really necessary. (Ok, ok, minimal LBC content -
though it WAS working on the B that did me in!)
