Well, I haven't babbled at y'all for a while... but after the hot part of
summer I am working on the B again....
1) B "overheats" in traffic. That is, the water temp goes up to just
>below< the hot side... but no problem with steam, etc. I put on the oil
cooler (which was removed) and have had no change.
What changes should I see with the oil cooler installed? Higher pressure?
Lower peak water temp? Less oil consumption (I wish)?
The temp is only a problem when idling or stop-n-go. The idle is set at
1000 RPM... would lowering it help (I think I can go down a couple
hundred, but it gets lumpy down there).
2) It seems to have an Austin Marina manifold with a single HIF carb
installed... I don't remember if I asked this before, but will I get
better performance going to 2 1 1/2" HIFs? I am looking for good low end
oomph for autocrossing.
3) I tried the B out at the beginning of August at a Corvair Club autox
(they let me drive a Corvair through the course as a reward for working
timing, then after folks left let me run the B). Great stuff! So I did
my first for-time at NAS Norfolk last weekend. Bottom of the class (as
usual) in ES, but not far off what I expected to run in the RX7.
What should I concentrate on to make the B happier in autocross? I am
more interested in keeping it from breaking than enhancing performance at
this point.. (although tweaks are nice, I have only run about a dozen
heats so far).
I hope this makes it to the list, my address changes don't seem to have
(don't worry, I can still read at the old address).
