I hate typo's. This one's probably worse than most to fathom:

That should be engine *fire*.
Well, fires, actually. That's what happens when your valve timing is so far
off that the piston is on it's way up while the intake valves are still open!
Fuel gets spit back out the carb inlets, and then you have trouble.
The first time, the owner painted the car afterward, and sold it a couple
years later, after owning it for 10 years, and less than 100 miles. It
happened again to the next owner, who just sorta fixed some wiring, and let
it sit. Which is where I came in. At least they both got it put out quick,
