I cannot say what your speedometer error is, but I can say that the
following shows the comparisons between the tire sizes.
155-14 165-14 185-14
Dia 23.73inches 24.36inches 25.62inches
width 6.09inches 6.41inches 7.14inches
The 155 and 165 are measured on 4.5 inch wide rims, the 185 is on 5.0
inch wide rims as recommended by manufacturers, however the diameter
is the same for all tire sizes on 5.0 inch rims. The width changes
minimally.
Sorry for the "Yank" spelling of tire, but I find it too difficult to
spell it the other way. I still remember reading in a British newspaper
about someone going to gaol, and trying to find it on a map. I now know
better. :-)
As it is quite often written in Calculus texts, the solution is trivial
and left to the reader, but I always felt that it just meant that the
author didn't have the foggiest as to how to find the solution.
