>From my understanding, 165 would refer to the TREAD width in millimeters,
sidewall profile and shape notwithstanding. Buyers should realize, however,
that certain manufacturers' products will run large or small of the standard.
Profile is also important. A 60 series tyre is 60% as tall as the tread is
wide. Hence, a 165-60 14 is a shorter and narrower tyre than a 185-60 14.
I hope this helps; buying tyres can be extremely confusing. And today's
tyre technology can immensely improve the handling behavior of LBC's,
sometimes even with an improvement in ride quality.
